artlight

Tiago da Fonseca

2007

Tiago da Fonseca, UK

silicone; accommodates one 40 watt bulb

notes:
This lamp was designed in response to a challenge posed by the lighting company Artemide to a group of students at the Royal College of Art, London, to reinterpret the classic Anglepoise task lamp. Each of the designs selected for the project were shown in the exhibition "New Moves" at the Aram gallery, London, in 2007.

The Anglepoise light was the first successful spring-balanced task lamp, designed by George Carwardine in 1932. His iconic design became the blueprint for all future task lights.

Royal College of Art student Tiago da Fonseca's submission for the Artemide project is a surrealist, Dali-esque transformation of the original task light in cast silicone with no rigid internal structure.

studio work, produced in a limited edition of 99 pieces

$2,400.00
