The iconic 'starburst' lighting fixtures in the Metropolitan Opera House were designed by Lobmeyr Director, Hans Harald Rath, in collaboration with the American architect of Lincoln Center, Wallace K. Harrison, between 1960 and 1966.

This brooch was originally created as a commemorative gift presented by Austria to the architect, members of the planning team and guests of honor at the opening of the Opera House on September 13th, 1966.
