This bowl was first presented to the public at the 'Deutscher Werkbund' (German Work Federation) fair in Cologne, Germany, in 1914. To create this piece, crystal is first mouth-blown into a mould that creates a smooth bowl with very thick walls; then Lobmeyr's expert glass-cutters cut away the walls to leave the faceted 'steps' Hoffmann designed.
