To celebrate Lobmeyr's extraordinary history and client list, as well as their renowned skill in crystal engraving, Moss commissioned twenty glass tumblers, each to be engraved with a unique example of an historic monogram selected from original designs found in the Lobmeyr archives. Only one example of each of these monograms has been engraved on a clear glass, suitable for cognac or other liqueurs, which is part of the 'Alpha' drinking service, designed by Hans Harald Rath, 1952.

Ludwig Louis II (1845-1886), King of Bavaria from 1864 until his death, had several infatuations with handsome men throughout his reign. Through some surviving copies of his diaries, copies of letters and other documents, it is suggested that Ludwig struggled with homosexuality and his belief in the Catholic Church. In 1886, Ludwig was declared insane and unfit to rule; his nephew Luitpold was declared King. Ludwig attempted to have accusatory articles against Luitpold published in the newspapers in order to plea his return to the throne, but the government seized the newspapers and arrested Ludwig in June of 1886. Mystery surrounds Ludwig's death; he requested to take a walk with a friend, and the two were later found drowned near the shore of Lake Starnberg.
