1952

manufacturer:
Lobmeyr, Austria

copper-wheel engraved 'muslin' glass

notes:
To celebrate Lobmeyr's extraordinary history and client list, as well as their renowned skill in crystal engraving, Moss commissioned twenty glass tumblers, each to be engraved with a unique example of an historic monogram selected from original designs found in the Lobmeyr archives. Only one example of each of these monograms has been engraved on a clear glass, suitable for cognac or other liqueurs, which is part of the 'Alpha' drinking service, designed by Hans Harald Rath, 1952.

This is the monogram of the Piëch-Porsche family. Ferdinand Porsche (1875-1951) was founder of the Porsche automobile company, and designed the first Volkswagen Beetle in 1930. His son-in-law, Anton Piëch, worked at Porsche under Ferdinand, and was father of Ferdinand Piëch, who was chairman of Volkswagen from 1993-2002. The family has been regular customers of Lobmeyr for several decades, always specifying the use of this monogram on their crystal.
