Meissen's 2006 activities were centered on the third centenary of the birth of Kaendler, who had worked at Meissen for over forty years as an artist, ceramics engineer, and workshop organizer. Johann is widely regarded as the father of European porcelain modeling. To commemorate his birth, Meissen chose a select number of his works and issued them in a limited, numbered edition called "Kaendler Edition 2006." Each piece has a special gold signet made up of the initials "J.J.K." and the year 2006 alongside the Meissen "Crossed Swords."
