This rhinoceros was modeled based only on description; the author himself had never seen a rhinoceros, which accounts for the human-like features and the awkward, fantastical appearance of this particular figure.

This piece is part of Meissen's 2006 "Limitierte Mesiterwerke" (Limited Masterpieces) series, which was presented at the Ambiente 2006 fair in Frankfurt, Germany.

The series is an impressive selection of masterpieces from Meissen's archives spanning the past four centuries.

Each piece bears a golden signet beneath Meissen's traditional mark of two crossed blue swords.

Editions are limited to 25, 50, 75, or 100 pieces worldwide, and are numbered.
