Meissen's 2006 activities are centered on the third centenary of the birth of Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706-1775), who had worked at Meissen for over forty years as an artist, ceramics engineer, and workshop organizer.

Johann is also known as the father of European porcelain modeling. To commemorate his birth Meissen has chosen a select number of his works and have issued them in a limited, numbered edition called "Kaendler Edition 2006."

Each piece has a special gold signet made up of the initials "J.J.K." and the year 2006 alongside the Meissen "Crossed Swords."
