designer:
Patrick Jouin

design year:
2004

manufacturer:
Patrick Jouin Studio, France

technology:
Built by stereolithography

materials:
Painted resin, table top in clear polished Acrylic

notes:
This piece was created by means of an industrial prototyping technique called stereolithography, a process resulting in the 'printing' of three dimensional structures from a CAD computer model. The designer’s computer drawing is first 'mapped' into very thin layers. Each layer then slowly materializes when a laser, drawing that "slice" through either a resin or a polyamide powder, photo-chemically hardens that material. The process is continuously repeated until the complete model is executed, exactly realizing, in three dimensional form, the original design.

Heretofore reserved primarily for the production of industrial prototypes, stereolithography, although costly, allows for the realization of designs which would be virtually impossible to create using more traditional, manual skills.

dimensions:
table base:
height 28.25" (overall height 29" including tabletop)
width: 26"
table top: 41.3" round, .75" thick
