Majolica large vase (multicolored) designer: Hella Jongerius manufacturer: Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum, the Netherlands materials: majolica clay from the Friesian coast, tin and transparent glaze with hand-painted decoration notes: hand-painted flowers from the manufactory's 18th century traditional designs. Jongerius based her designs on authentic majolica domestic ceramics from the 17th and 18th century, but with an intriguing change: the earthenware is only partially immersed in opaque tin glaze and the remaining surfaces retain the natural stone-color underneath a very thin layer of transparent glazing.
