One of the great, historic glass producers in Europe, Theresienthal, named after Queen Therese of Bavaria (wife of Ludwig I), was founded in September, 1836 by Franz Steigerwald. The King himself supported Steigerwald in establishing the manufactory and granted him monopoly for certain kinds of glass. Theresienthal did not fail to keep its promise - in a very short period of time, it managed to conquer high society and the royal courts of Europe.
