2005

manufacturer:
Patrick Jouin Studio, France

materials:
Painted resin; polymide powder, built throught Selective Laser Sintering

notes:
Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) is a process of creating "rapid prototypes", allowing one to "print" three dimensional structures from a CAD computer model. The computer model is sliced into very thin layers, and each layer is created through the use of a laser which fuses together the chosen material, which is in a powder form. After each layer is hardened, it is lowered down one thickness and a new layer of the powdered material is rolled out to be traced on the surface. Upon completion, the physical model replicates the CAD computer model to the finest detail.

Rapid prototyping is used by manufacturers all over the world as a quick way to realize CAD models, regardless of structural complexity, for testing and product examination. With his "Solid" series, Jouin embraces the technology not as a method to create a prototype, but as a new method of manufacturing.

From a limited edition of 30 pieces.
