Orrefors started its production of crystal in 1914. Under the direction of Simon Gate, hired in 1916, and Edward Hald, hired in 1917, the company developed new techniques for etching and engraving glass, creating growth and interest for Orrefors throughout the 1920’s.
The name Orrefors most likely originates from the name of the Orranäsa Lake, with the Swedish word "fors" added, representing the river by which the factory was situated.
