Marco Zanini was born in Trento, Italy in 1954, and graduated from the University of Florence with an architecture degree. He started working in Milan in 1977, first as an assistant to Ettore Sottsass, the leading founder of the Memphis Group, and then later as a partner and managing director of Sottsass Associati. He has designed numerous objects for Memphis including the "Colorado", "Sepik", and "Mississippi" teapots.
