Nicolas Petitcollin founded his factory in Etain, France, in 1860. At that time, the factory was creating, among other things, combs and boning for corsets. In 1898, Petitcollin began to use celluloid for its various products. In 1901 the factory began to manufacture dolls, and its first commercial success with this venture came with the “Petit Collin” doll in 1924. Between 1930 and 1960, Petitcollin was considered the largest and most important doll manufactory in France.
