Fiam was established in 1973 by Vittorio Livi. Livi's goal in establishing the company was to make glass design a protagonist in furnishing, an important presence in people's life. This goal was obtained through a revolution which joins handicraft and technology: curved glass, a new frontier in design in which Fiam has become the uncontested leader.

Under the supervision of sophisticated monitoring systems and skilled craftsmen, sheets of glass are heated inside specially-made "curving chambers". At a certain temperature, the glass becomes flexible, and is stretched over the mould by the force of gravity. State-of-the-art technologies developed by Fiam are applied at particular stages in the process to ensure that the material is as resistant as possible. Fiam's philosophy is to combine these technological feats with the individual skills of the expert glassmakers. Each piece made by the manufactory is unique, pure - a transparent, sensuous line realized in ultra-thick, curved glass.
