Big pot
(white)

Hella Jongerius

design year:
1997

Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum, the Netherlands

porcelain

notes:
Using medieval shards donated by the Museum Boymans van Beuningen, Rotterdam, Jongerius created new archetypes in which she glued the shards together with epoxy.

Two pots from this series were cast in porcelain, the Big pot and the Red and white vase, resulting in usable, solid vessels. The casting seams are still visible on the porcelain moulds, so the vessels appear to consist of more than one piece. As with the medieval pots, the pots are decorated with porcelain labels of Hella's thumbprint. This was customary in the Middle Ages when illiterate potters would mark their pots with their fingerprints underneath.

Ø 11", height: 13.25"

$550.00
