Michele de Lucchi, born 1951, studied architecture and became involved in radical and theoretical architecture movements, founding the group Cavart in 1973. In 1978 he met Ettore Sottsass in Milan and with him created the first Memphis exhibition (1981). De Lucchi contributed several pieces to the Memphis collection including his famous "First Chair" from 1983.
