This sculpture was created and painted by Wackerle himself, and was placed in the Park at Nymphenburg in 1908, where it resided until appearing in the Moss Gallery exhibition “Fertile Garden”, May 2005. A second sculpture, painted in another color-way, was created at the same time by Wackerle for the Theresienhöhe exhibition grounds and is now in the permanent collection of the Munich Stadtmuseum. This rare vintage Nymphenburg sculpture, never available for sale prior to its exhibition at Moss Gallery, is an early and important technical feat from this renowned historic manufactory, embodying the energy, spontaneity, and freedom from Academic thinking which burst forth in Munich at the turn of the 20th century. |
