Gaetano Pesce, renowned architect-artist-designer based in New York City, has undertaken in his more than forty years of practice diverse commissions in architecture, urban planning, interior and exhibition design, industrial design, and publishing, creating an unparalleled body of work so unique and so resonant as to defy any comparison. The subject of numerous publications and exhibitions throughout the past five decades, Pesce’s work is included in the permanent collections of most major museums, including The Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, as well as in important private collections. In 1996 he was honored with a comprehensive retrospective at the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris. The monumental urns shown here were specially commissioned by Moss Gallery. Classical in nature, yet obviously outside of any conventional approach to art, they embody this unique artist’s philosophy, at odds with romantic art, academic theory, and the dubious goal of perfection. |
